The Deidra
Report
Okay, this is my take on the Warren Report.
It contains my very *biased* opinion on the characters of the Tactics Ogre
world so if you're very sensitive...BEWARE. As I play here, the opinions
expressed in the report will change from time to time, so just be aware
of that. I haven't played through much of the game so there's bound to
be a whole truckload of surprises around that will make some of my views
do a total 180 degrees. I've got only a few characters here so far but
that'll change as time goes on. HopefullyI can keep up! (Side Note: Please
don't take the images here without permission. I know they're not the best
looking and it technically is the property of Quest, but I shelled out
a lot of money for a video card that could do still captures).
Characters:
Alocer Dania
Canopus
Wolff
Guildus W. Burn
Lans Hamilton
Lans Tartare
Leonard Leci
Limon
Mildain Walhorn
Oz Mow Gracious
Ozma Mow Gracious
Alocer Dania
Just so that you guys don't think I'm crazy,
I think her name is really spelled Alocer. I don't know if it was a subliminal
thing for Atlus to call her "Aloser" or not, I just don't think her name
is said that way. According to the Warren Report, she joined the Walsta
Liberation Army after she lost her parents in the first battle and then
she lost her brother in the Baramus massacre. She's sore with Denim in
the Chaos route, but she's REALLY pissed off at him in the Law route. Still,
I feel sorry for her. Now my sis, Mieu, feels differently. She thinks Alocer
is a total pinhead idiot for still loving the man that carried out Duke
Ronway's orders in Baramus. I know she vows to kill him, but she says she
still loves Leonard if she gets killed in Chapter 4. Mieu says she'd admire
her more if she didn't say something like that and stayed with her conviction
to hate him. But I have one thing to argue. Those kinds of feelings are
not something that you could pick up and throw away overnight. Mieu argues
that what they had is a fling. Maybe it was, but there's no proof. At least
in the Law and Chaos routes I've seen there isn't. I was kind of disappointed
when she and Leonard didn't even address each other during battles. If
something deep and romantic did happen between them, I expected an exchange
of angry words and cursing at least, sheesh. Anyway, who am I to talk?
I didn't make the game, it's just one of the little things I noticed they
could have elaborated on in the game.

Canopus Wolff
It took me long enough to write something about
this beloved, red-winged Vultan. Canopus seems to be a big favorite among
Japanese Tactics Ogre fans as well as American Tactics Ogre fans. It's
not too hard to see why. He's fun-loving and he tends to look more at the
brighter side of things than the gloomier side. He could be serious too
when it counts. He starts at the ripe old age of 48...ripe and old for
us humans, but not for Vultans since they live three times longer than
humans. Now for those of us who are really good with our math, we'd see
right away that he'd only be 16 in Vultan years. This "young" man has all
the experiences of a mature adult but at the same time all the playfulness
and youth of a teenager. Not a bad combination, huh? My sis Mieu thinks
a patient guy who looks at the brighter things in life would make a good
life-long companion for me. In other words, she thinks a guy like Canopus
would be good for me, especially when it comes to keeping my sometimes
unpredictable temper in line. If you had my honest opinion, I think a guy
like him would annoy the heck out of me after a while. Either that, or
I'd annoy the heck out of him and he'd wander off. To tell you the truth,
I think a guy like Leonard is more my speed. Barring his rigid way of thinking
and his tendency to follow authority unquestioningly, I think I'd have
more in common with him or at least be able to share something of interest.
... What's all the funny looks for? Hey, I know it sounds nuts, but it's
hard to explain. Trust me. If you knew me as well as I know me, I think
you could agree too.

Lans Tartare
In a few words, Lans Tartare scares me. He thinks
that laws are in place so that the strong could rule over the weak and
lazy masses. He's the total opposite of Lans Hamilton who believes that
people could do good if given the chance. He disturbs me a little bit because
of what he might have done to Kachua when she was with the Dark Knights.
I didn't want to think of the possibility of him doing stuff with Kachua,
but considering how needy and clingy Kachua is, I don't see it as impossible.
Disgusting maybe, but not impossible. How Lans Hamilton took out his right
eye is one thing I'm curious about. I wonder if they make any mention of
it in Ogre Battle 3 which is supposed to b the episode before Tactics Ogre?
I though it was sick that Lans Hamilton towards the end of the game seemed
to have his eye taken out in the process too. At least it looked like he
had an eye missing. I guess Lans Tartare wanted to really get back at Lans
Hamilton for what happened a long time ago.

Guildus W. Burn
The White Knight Guildus...well, according to
my sis Mieu, I do a pretty good imitation of him. I know what you guys
are thinking, "There's no voice acting in Tactics Ogre!" Well, but I have
my little take on him and I think I've got his personality down pat. Voice
acting for Tactics Ogre I heard was on the Japanese version of the game
for the Saturn but the quality of the acting was really poor...so anyway...White
Knight Guildus...he's more the tough talking one of the Zenobian pack.
Totally opposite from Mildain. He's forceful,
pushy, and arrogant in a fight but, according to Warren, he's a warm hearted
soul. Now, I've yet to witness him be warm-hearted, I mean come on! You're
talking about a guy who loves wine, women, and a good fight. I don't see
how he could be the type to be a warm-hearted type of person.

Lans Hamilton
He's also known as the Holy Knight Lans (or Lancelot,
if you're following the japanese version). It's a shame that you only see
a little of him in the beginning and then nothing else after that. My favorite
scene with him was when he was speaking to Denim about his wife and how
she died during the war against the Black Queen. He's a nice, decent guy,
the type you'd go to if you have problems you want to discuss. I liked
his honesty in answering his questions about death and war. He freely admits
himself that he is afraid during a battle, something that you wouldn't
expect a stereotypical hero to admit to. Not that I'm saying Lans Hamilton
is stereotypical, far from it. I don't think that the treatment he receives
in the end justifies what happens to him, at least in one of the endings
I saw. All of these reasons are why my sister names him the best male character
in Tactics Ogre. She even admitted that she thought he was the most handsome
in the game (*gasp*, what about Mildain!). Well, his good looks combined
with his personality and strength of character helped her come to this
conclusion. Another thing...is it just me or does he sort of resemble Charlton
Heston as Moses during his younger years in the movie Ten Commandments?
I almost expected him to raise his sword over the Obello Ocean and part
it in half! ^_^ Well, the most you ever get is him raising his sword in
an oath not to harm Denim and his friends if you decide not to trust him.
Still, it would have been cool to see some act of God, like lightning,
shoot from the sky in response to his oath. ^_^

Leonard Leci Limon
Umm, well, what can I say about good 'ol Leonard...hmm...well..uhhh...oh
alright. I have to admit I find him stunningly handsome in spite of him
burning down a whole town and following Duke Ronway around like a dog.
Guess I'm like any typical girl, eh? Just fall in love with a handsome
face...but seriously, there are other reasons why I like him, but it's
complicated. If I wrote my reasons out, it would turn into a PhD dissertation
so I'll stop here. :) He's unique in that he could commit inhuman acts
without even so much as looking back and pondering what he did. Very efficient,
very machine-like...and the thing is, I don't fully understand how people
like him could stay like that. I only know of one other person who could
be cold like that and not many others. Maybe it's something he witnessed
that made him snap one day and he just never changed. Who knows? Another
thing I noticed about him is that he's what I like to call "gleaming white
lawful". I mean, he gets upset if you take any of his equipment saying
that Duke Ronway was the one that gave it to him and that he can't give
it away. Yeesh....if he wasn't human and a guy, I'd say he was Ishtar herself.
It's kind of freaky.
Now, after going all the way down the Chaos route,
I see he's a man that sticks to his decisions no matter where they may
take him. Once his mind is made up, it's like stopping a truck going 90
miles per hour without brakes. ^_^; If anyone were to take over leadership
of the Walstanians, I would have nominated him, at least in the Chaos route.
He's more dedicated to helping Walsta as a country than Duke Ronway ever
was. I never understood why Leonard never did that. The feeling I get is
that he was never ambitious in that sense so never really pursued it. As
usual, I'm guessing on this because I don't really know.

Mildain Walhorn
Mildain's another White Knight who is obviously
friends with Guildus for some unknown reason. I never played all the way
through Ogre Battle to find out much about them so I'm guessing they must
have gotten along well in the past. He's a rather shy man who hails from
the Dalmuhd Desert but is rather handy with a sword. Unfortunately, unlike
Guildus, he isn't very strong but has great speed in battle to make up
for it (he usually has his turn first before anyone else, at least in my
experience).Another thing I noticed is that he's *ultra* polite...especially
in the beginning. Well, okay, maybe the only time I haven't seen him that
way was when you fight Barbas. I didn't think he had it in him to cuss
him out! Well, you know what they say about quiet people...you just never
know what to expect. I think his gentle manners combined with his politeness
give him the common qualities of a white knight that most girls dream about.
'Course, like what good 'ol Warren says, he'll never give the ladies more
than a bashful smile. :)

Oz Mow Gracious
Twin brother to Ozma, his sister, he graduated
at the top of his class at the Zanam Army School in the city of Galius
in Lodis. I think he's much nastier than his sister when it comes to handling
his enemies. One example that springs to mind is what he tells his soldiers
to do to Selye if you never manage to meet and save her. She doesn't die
in a very pretty way, she's treated like a common female prisoner of war.
I have yet to see what he does to her in the neutral route, but I think
I'll get to it soon enough. My sister thinks he's ugly because he looks
like he has a receding hairline problem *laugh*. Looking closely now, I
kind of have to agree with her on this.

Ozma Mow Gracious
Here's one of the Dark Knights. She's the twin
sister of the Dark Knight Oz. I don't really have much information on her
except that it seems like she and her brother are very close to each other.
Her family is said to have supported the Galius Magic Institute in Lodis
which may explain why she and her brother are a bit skilled in magic themselves.
This beautiful knight sort of reminds me of the way Rauni looks from Ogre
Battle, though I think their personalities must be radically different
from each other.
